The Play:
Amiri Baraka’s powerful one-act from 1964. The play follows the story of Clay; a young black man on the subway who is met by Lula; a beautiful white woman. Their interaction shifts from flirtation to confrontation quickly and Clay realizes he may just be another pawn in her game. Dutchman is a searing look at being a black man in America and how white women have used their sexuality as a tool for hate.
